    Question puresound 2A3 upgrade to?

    Hi

I've got the 2A3 (from Guy).

Can anyone suggest a suitable upgrade please?

I am currently looking at a ARION NEMESIS 300B for example?

Jadis? Audio research? McIntosh? Ayon? Wavac? Art Audio? Border Patrol? Viva? Ear? Pathos?

    OR just upgrade the '2A3'?

Long Dog Audio 300b. Some of the most advanced regulation in any amp available today, and it really shows in the sound. Nick doesn't post here, but I can put you in touch. He's not a million miles away from you in Halifax, would be easy enough to arrange a demo.

Seriously, the best 300b amp I've ever heard. Not a shill, just my opinion. Nick is a friend, but I've nothing to gain from the recommendation. Give one a listen and decide for yourself.
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

I already asked Guy about that and he doesn't think it is anywhere near as important as it is for his A30. He gave a techy explanation for this that I can't replicate.

"In principle, the BP supply is a good thing although perhaps more for a Single Ended type amplifier which are generally more dependent on the quality of their power supply & which in many instances is under specified in most commercially made SET amps. It's less critical for a push-pull amp like the 2A3".

That's interesting but I must say I used to have 2nd audio mono amps, these were 2a3 push pull and although I needed two psu's the improvement was fundamental, quite impressive control in the bass, the 2nd audio as standard sound loose and flabby in the bass and can get congested, still unless you try it or hear it first you'll never know.

Chinese linear psu, not familiar with those but I'd be very cautious about anything Chinese with known voltage issues.
