Default Wobbly tape with my Tandberg 4000x

    Hi All

When I play a tape it wobbles causing the sound to wobble. However it also wobbles when rewind the tape so not touching heads, capstans, pinch roller. They have also been thoroughly cleaned. Also struggles speed wise when rewinding to the point of stopping.
Big question is this the motor or another issue. My other thought is could need a new drive belt as I don't think it has ever been changed.

    Thanks
    Kevin

Apart from any possible motor issues, watch the reels and tape as it winds. Does it do so evenly in the middle of the reel, or does it wind on one side of the reel and scrape the reel edge as it winds? If it does the latter, try with another reel. If it persists with knocking the erg of the tape, you may need to add a thin spacer onto the reel table to allow the tape to wind smoothly onto the reel.

Thanks. Have watched tape and unfortunately not the latter problem. So bad news how many untold issues. I have been narrowing down other issues over last couple of days and was left with motor and only other was that I have recently replaced clutch pads with cork at specified 5 mm

Could it just be sticky shed?, is there a build up of oxide on the guides ?, what type of tape are you using ?.
Is the capstan roller sticky as well they can also go soft

Thanks Alan problem solved the tapes were throwing off oxide but definitely not as much as the drive belt. ŁOpened her up to lube the motor and the transfer belt and there was a great big mound of black dust. May the belt rest in pieces
Now i am on the search for a new drive belt. Do you know of any good sites to search as the 4000x seems to only come on eBay rarely and can't find any sites on Google

This supplier has Tandberg belts http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Malvern-Hil...p2047675.l2563

He doesn't mention the 4000, perhaps the 3000 belt is the same?

    Worth a call

Many Thanks Alan for these sites. I am going to purchase off Marrs site but also have considered the 3000x. My belt had definitely degraded as when opened her up there was a pile of black dust so have started to re clean. I feel I know every nook and cranny of the Tandberg now. Also ordered the counter belt off eBay as it was very loose.
