    Default PC-DAC-AMP

    Hello,
I will soon be looking at playing some tunes from my PC (either from hard drive or spotify etc) through my hi-fi amp. I will plugging my DAC into the PC as normal, then I will have to run a cable from the DAC/PC to my hi-fi amp. I reckon that this will require a cable of around 7mtrs long. What would be the best way to do this length of cable? RCA or another way. I could have the DAC closer to the amp and use 0.5mtr RCA or 1mtr ones etc.
So what I think i'm trying to ask is this?

    PC_____DAC________________________________________ __Amp
    or
    PC__________________________________________DAC___ __Amp

and what would be the best type of cable/connections

    cheers
    Gadgie

Presumably you use a USB cable from your PC to your DAC? so I wouldn't have thought you could get a USB cable anywhere near 7 mts long, so you're probably going to have to have some RCA leads made up to run from the DAC to Amp.

You can source USB cables in excess of 7m but I wouldn't advise it for audio purposes such as described by the OP.

I use an optical cable between my PC and DAC (Berresford Caiman II), so there are other options :-)

If your PC has Bluetooth then use a Bluetooth receiver with a digital output. An example of that is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-...QAAOSw-W5UvNqp
I use a Yamaha version, but there are several kinds available.

yeah, that is interesting and got me searching.. there's one here that uses WiFi and also has an optical out for an external DAC.

I couldn't find any info on the optical out.

It probably has a Linux OS running shareport to be able to connect to Airplay devices..

Now that's a very sensible and elegant solution, nice one Stan

I believe this is a better solution than the Bluetooth one because it as more available bandwidth. Maybe a bit harder to setup, though.

    Thanks guys,

The bluetooth would be handy, but what is the sound quality like? I have no problem running wires if needs be as they will be under the floor. Just not sure what way is the best.

Assuming you have Wifi, the Squeezebox Touch is a good solution here.

Wireworld do an excellent 7m USB cable but it costs nearly as much as a used Touch.
