During the summer salvaged one old Nishiki Trim Master racer that was cracked and then repaired but decided to be no good. Used some old and recycled parts and have been riding it happily as a townie fixed gear bike.

The summer has not been that good here in Finland so the temperature has been below average and have had lot of rain. However last week or so has been exceptionally good and to celebrate that did yesterday evening four hour gravel grinding ride with a theme sun, swimming and beer. Such a nice way to spend wednesday evening!

    Yikes,

I know it's fixed gear but I would still like the comfort of some brakes. I'm surprised it would be allowed on the road without! Elf and safety would be up in arms in the UK or France I would have thought.

Legally it's not allowed here in Finland either. However I've been having one or more brakeless fixed bikes in my use more or less ten+ years without any issues or problems. Of course if something bad happens you might be fined or even cut from the insurance company side but so far so good..

Always great when pics are posted, the reconnaissance shots looks unlike Glentress Forest here,
damp and boggy and spooky in places, glad to see your wee fella is a chip of the old block.

Love you re-cycled bike, brakes are over rated where you are, you're more likely to kiss the arse of an Elk than a double decker bus,
giggled at your 'Elf and Safety' quip though it would be 'Elk and Safety' where you are.

Weather has been horrific here, according to the beeb, it's been the coldest and wettest summer since the 80's, (for us in the west anyway),
though southern part of the country escaped most of it and even caught some of the heatwave from Europe.

Yeah, same here with the weather. I think last summer was the hottest in 30 years or something having more than 20 hot days in a row. This year we have had three in total I think, so..

Nice one, will look into that set up in due course.

P.S. been trying off and on for the last year to try and put pics in this thread, i finally enlisted Grant's help,
so there's a selfie of me, then my Surly before i stripped bits off to complete my Dahon,
in hindsight i shouldn't have done it as my Crosscheck has been laying broken for a year.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
