Default New IC for my system

After lots of research I have narrowed down to 3 IC's that Im considering for my system

    MG G2000D
    Epiphany Acoustics Atratus 3
Brians MS Audio / Klotz MC5000

My current IC is a VDH D102 mk3, Im trying to tame a bit of top end harshness at higher listening levels

Room is carpeted with plenty of soft furnishings. System is in my signature.

Budget is £120ish, so MG cables will have to 2nd hand

    Thanks, James

I have the Mark Grant, and the Bryan KLOTZ special. They are both very good cables and will serve you well, not toppy in any way. I have not heard the Epiphany but I hear it's good, Jerry uses it extensively, my hunch is it may spotlight the top end a little more than the others, but I don't know that for sure.
    Best of luck.

I don't think any Bland and Dull if can be blamed for harshness at the top end.....

Sorry you are experiencing top end harshness with a VDH102 The 102 is certainly one of the least warm and coloured VDH cables but its still less open and detailed than the ones you mention so changing from a 102 is not going to solve your problem.

What is the rest of your system and what kind of room do you use it in? Is the room echo prone, stone, bare wood floors, minimal, not much soft furnishing?

Harsh sounds can come from almost anywhere in the frequency range and It can also come from the woofer, not just the tweeter.

Isn't the Roksan Kandy known for being a bit bright or harsh? (I'm sure I read that somewhere).

It certainly can be, at least the early ones were. Not sure how the newer ones sound.

On a different tack treble glare can be a result of poor mains quality. A conditioner may cure it at source rather than mask the isue. Just a thought.

A belkin pureav made a huge difference to my set up and with the further addition of a regenerator in front of it brought another huge leap. Treble is crystal clear yet sweet.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
