Default Am I making a fuss about nothing?

After working for my present company since last August, their insurers have demanded proof of a period of self employment. This can be either bank statements or tax returns. I think both are private documents that no one should have a right to see. Would you send them these documents?

    Jerry,

Why are they asking? Are you self-employed now, under IR35, in which case it might be their business? If you are an employee, as opposed to IR35, I can't see what business your previous employment status is.

Not sure what statements would show though.. If you invoice regularly when self employed say once a month, the payments are no different to those via regular employment.

This is professional indemnity insurance. In other words proof that I have been working constantly. I have offered references from people I have worked for but its bank statements or tax returns they are after. I am employed by the way, no longer self employed.

    I'm stumped.

If they are writing it for your employers, only those things you do in current employment should count but maybe they want to see that employees' track records do not increase the risk, although the information they are asking for does not seem to help them assess this.

On the other hand, my own company's PI requires me to keep paying premia for up to six years after I cease trading in order to ensure that I remain covered until any potential claim is time-barred.

Exactly Peter, what relevance is my bank statement? I am happy for them to contact people I have worked for although it is a bit late now.

    Jerry,
FWIW I suggest you contact them in writing, stating your willingness to comply and stating that you have nothing to hide but politely asking for an explanation as to why they need this information - it is not impossible that someone has misinterpreted their instructions - peanuts and monkeys spring to mind .
    Dave.
BTW, how long have you had the Mission speakers and what do you think of them? I have Mission 775SEs (I think) and wondering about upgrading them as I like the sound (signature?). My previous ones were also small Mission floorstanders, hence themove up to 775SEs.

    Amps etc.: 2 x Mini-T amps, MF-X10D Valve buffer clone, StanDAC 7520/Caiman (mod'd).
Speakers: Mission 774s with added super tweeters
Cables: best I can afford and likely to change except Homar's RF attenuated co-ax's and Mark Grant USB and HDMI cables. I also like silver i/cs and speaker cable.

I dont have any direct contact with them Dave, its all through the HR department, I have sent an email to my boss saying I object.I hope he can come up with a solution.
Had the Missions for about 8 months now Dave. They are just connected to my computer via a little Sabre dac. Sound ok, they have a lot of bass for their size but they don't do soundstage like my Vandersteens.
I was getting worried about you as you have been quiet lately. Been on holiday?

    Hi Jerry,
No holiday recently but looking forward to Crete (again) in mid June .
Thought I'd already 'alerted the media' but my son and DiL (to be) presented us with twin boys, two months premature, on Dec 23rd - bit 'touch anf go' for a few weeks but making great progress now and 3 x birth weight - so much spare time has been taken up by grandparent duties and pleasures.
Most of my forum activities are now spent elsewhere but I keep an eye on here to see what my friends are posting. Still some interesting posts but now a bit too big and impersonal for me, I am happier on a smaller and more devotedly friendly forum these days, life's too short for audio hassle thes days I feel.
    Will keep in touch,
    Cheers,
    Dave.
