    Correct - it's optical only. I think some DACs used to have a restricted bandwidth on optical but that's not the case these days and it's certainly more than enough for CD.

    Pioneer PS-S703 or similar. Just make sure it has the coax out, some had only optical and the bottom of the range no digital out at all.

    Less chance for electrical noise to get on the line as well, especially if implemented right.
    That said, I've always preferred coax.
