A Passage to India, 1984. Directed by David Lean. It stars Peggy Ashcroft, Judy Davis, James Fox, Alec Guinness, Nigel Havers, Victor Banerjee and Roshan Seth.

    E. M. Forster began writing A Passage to India during a stay in India from late 1912 to early 1913 (he was drawn there by a young Indian Muslim, Syed Ross Masood, whom he had tutored in Latin), completing it only after he returned to India as secretary to a maharajah in 1921. The novel was published on 6 June 1924.[4] It differs from Forster's other major works in the overt political content, as opposed to the lighter tone and more subdued political subtext in works such as Howards End and A Room With a View.
A Passage to India deals with the delicate balance between the English and the Indians during the British Raj.

This was the final film of Lean's prestigious career, and the first feature film he had directed in fourteen years, since Ryan's Daughter in 1970. Receiving praise as Lean's finest since Lawrence of Arabia, A Passage to India received eleven nominations at the 57th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Lean, and Best Actress for Judy Davis for her portrayal as Adela Quested. Peggy Ashcroft won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal as Mrs Moore, making her, at 77, the oldest actress to win the award, and Maurice Jarre won his third Academy Award for Best Original Score.

Classic scares there for the year.. Bet it put a few folk off proms at time

anyway on to the 2001 Mulholland Dr from director David Lynch. It stars Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux, Ann Miller, Mark Pellegrino and Robert Forster.

In Rolling Stone, Peter Travers observed, "Mulholland Drive makes movies feel alive again. This sinful pleasure is a fresh triumph for Lynch, and one of the best films of a sorry-ass year. For visionary daring, swooning eroticism and colors that pop like a whore's lip gloss, there's nothing like this baby anywhere."

Got the DVD, but can't remember a thing about it. Needs watching again I guess.

I saw Lynch's 'Lost Highway' recently, very weird but leaves an impression.

We're No Angels, 1955. Directed by Michael Curtiz, starring Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov, Aldo Ray, Joan Bennett, Basil Rathbone, Leo G. Carroll, and Gloria Talbott.

Bogart's character says: We came here to rob them and that's what we're gonna do - beat their heads in, gouge their eyes out, slash their throats. Soon as we wash the dishes.

On stage before he came to Hollywood, Bogart actually did a lot of light comedy.

This was also Bogart's final film with Director Michael Curtiz with whom he worked often and well back at Warner Brothers. Most particularly in Casablanca which was Curtiz's Oscar winning film for himself and for the film. A lot consider that film the one that firmly cemented Humphrey Bogart as a top box office draw.

Another xmassy film now with ..A Christmas Carol , 1984.. Directed by Clive Donner, who had been an editor of the 1951 film Scrooge, and stars George C. Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge. Supporting are Frank Finlay, David Warner, Susannah York and Edward Woodward.

The film closely follows the structure of Charles Dickens' original book, with some changes to the story's detail. Novelist and essayist Louis Bayard, writing for Salon.com, described this adaptation as "the definitive version of a beloved literary classic", praising its fidelity to Dickens' original story, the strength of the supporting cast, and especially Scott's performance as Scrooge.

why stop there; im taking no chances on not being here at xmas....Scrooge, 1951. It stars Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge. With Kathleen Harrison, George Cole, Hermione Baddeley and Mervyn Johns.

This is the Black and White version(and the best imo.)

The film was a hit here, but initially was not liked in the States.. It did become a staple tho there later.

    Sim is on top form
