Default Naim Ovator S-400 at Radlett Audio

We now have the new Naim Ovator S-400 floor standing speaker on demonstration.

It's looking svelte and sophisticated and sounding great - big, bold and very dynamic.

They are priced at £3250 in the standard finishes of Ash, Cherry and Zebrano.

Do you prefer them to the S-600's Dave?

The S-600 is a big speaker and not as room friendly as the S-400, especially when you have a fairly small room as I have. The S-400 works really well here at just over 12 inches from the wall. The S-600 would probably need double that to give it's best but that would place them in my lap.

Another thing is that the S-600 is a bit on the large/heavy side for me to manage on my own. The S-400 is more manageable and easy on the eye. It's more 'universal' than the larger speaker and sounding rather good.

Perhaps it is room issues that I have experienced with the S-600's I have heard. I've only heard the S-400's once, but I was struck by how much better integrated I found the bass to be compared to my experience of their bigger brothers (in fact, the S-400's sounded generally excellent when I listened to them).

The S-600 is a big speaker with bass to match, so it does need plenty of room to breathe. The smaller S-400 is definitely far more room friendly and should also have the 'Lady of the house' appeal.

....and if not, trade in your existing 'lady of the house' for a more considerate and acceptable model!!
