I doubt many (if any) will have noticed - 15% is a relatively small difference.

Indeed, for you, perhaps (and some others), but the 15% reduction, for me, makes it less intrusive.
Remember that the whole point of the banner is to showcase real examples of equipment used by our members. How can we do that if its tiny and you can hardly make out the gear that's being shown?
