You'll have to blame the Cullen mods if you don't like the Dale resistors

Haha, no worries Leo! Didn't mean it like that.

It's gonna be a lot of fiddly tweezers work though.

I got some parts today that should keep me busy for a while. Guess we'll see how it goes.

    Dale RN55D 100 ohms x 18
    Dale RN55D 10K ohms x 14
    Black Gate PK 100uF/10v x 10
    Black Gate PK 0.1uF/50v x 4
    Elna Cerafine 10uF/16v x 12
    Nichicon Fine Gold 1uF/50v x 5
Copper sheet - to separate the transformer and the audio board
    Salmon Onigiri - for energy!

I got all 28 Dale resistors in the signal path now. A nice step up for very little money!
I haven't been listening very long, but there seems to be a more natural tonality to the music and more detail and coherency seems to be coming through. Bass is stronger now too. Do resistors change with time?

I'm listening to Jack Johnson - On and On right now and hearing things way in the background that I never noticed before. On the intro to Tomorrow Morning, I could hear more of the sound of the outdoors, the birds, insects (and a bug zapper?), wind in the trees, etc. Almost unsettling in a way. I finally feel like I have a "real" dac though!

Definitely worth the $20 and 90 minutes (I'm the slow, careful type) it took to do it. Next in line will be the Black Gate and Cerafine caps, then the Paul Hynes regulators I think.

Can you tell the difference between mine and a Cullen job?

    Nice work James
The black gates will take plenty of time to settle in so just be paitent when you do this upgrade The Paul Hynes regulators should improve the DAC even more
Loves anything from Pain of Salvation to Jeff Buckley to Django to Sarasate to Surinder Sandhu to Shawn Lane to Nick Drake to Rush to Beth Hart to Kate Bush to Rodrigo Y Gabriela to The Hellecasters to Dark Sanctury to Ben Harper to Karicus to Dream Theater to Zero Hour to Al DiMeola to Larry Carlton to Derek Trucks to Govt Mule to?

Thanks John. It's a fun project. A little money hole I guess to keep me from getting bored. After the caps and regs I'll be at a loss as for what to do next.

The title of the thread still holds, so if you or anyone else has any modding ideas they'd like to share please do so!

    I'm David.

Default anyone doing stuff like this still?

I read this with interest, and am about to start down the same path.
    Two questions:
    1. Did you get any further with your mods?
    2. I notice in your pics that your main 22000uF caps are 25volt, whereas the originals are 35v. I'm just hoping they didn't blow? Any advice?
I have already successfully rewired my transformer primary connections to UK voltage. It was easy. I also have an encapsulated 80VA transformer which I might replace the original 35VA one with at some point. I am looking at doing the resistor and cap mods, and replacing the phono sockets with WBT ones, although the cost of a replacement clock board seems too high to consider at the moment.
So...any further advice would be very well received....

    Hello Sir,

    Greeting!!

Writing to you for a help. Can you please let me know how to rewire the primary section to power it with UK voltage?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Koushik.
