Default Life with Dunc copper dac

She arrived like a new bride. Not a virgin, in fact thrice divorced I think. She bore the marks of previous relationships but I didn't mind. She came with much hype and I worried my expectations were too high.Would she be my Ann of Cleaves? In my mind I'd put her on a pedestal. On arrival I did, literally, on an old speaker stand (too big for my rack you see). I powered up and gently buffed her with my softest cloth as her valves started to glow. I knew I was rushing her; she wouldn't be ready yet. But like a teenager I couldn't wait and pressed the buttons.
Ah! doctor's appt. Be back in a couple of hours.

Enough of the Mills & Boon...sorry, must be the medication I'm on.Well, after 10 mins I realised I was experiencing one of those "this is a major upgrade" moments. I played 1 or 2 tracks of different genres hearing what she could do, until Eric Bibb 'Painting Signs' had to stay on for every track. His discs are very well recorded and I know them so well but now everything is easier to hear with greater presence, almost tactile edges to leading notes, separation of instruments and depth of soundstage. First track, Kokomo, has an accordian and I realised just what a zydeco flavouring it gives to the song. Roundabout from Yes' Fragile album has a note that gets louder and louder, coming at you like an explosion, filling the room till you think it's going to deafen you and then reaches a denoument with a plucked guitar harmonic that instantly releases the tension. The intensity hit me for the first time and I've had it for 40 years.Needless to say this dac will be staying for a long time. The up side of torn leg muscles is that I can sit and listen all day without censure from the wife, after all what else can I do?Thanks for all your help Hamish, and good to talk to you.

Are you suggesting Duncan's using bio-technology? Are the weevils housed in those big black silos?

They need two faces so the electrons will go from one end to the other.
