    Default Music Server Software

    Hi Guys

Having sorted out a new PC for myself I have now enough spare parts to build a PC based Music Server. Well Mart (of this forum) will be doing the tecky bits.

I will be using the Digital O/P form the PC direct to my Audio Logic DAC.
So, it won't be my main source of music mainly an addition to my normal use CD and Vinyl systems.

The thoughts were just to use Windows Media Player initially and see how I get on with it.

What alternatives do you guys use for the Software to catalogue/play your PC based music.

Any ideas and thoughts would be appreciated.

Looks like you are going to use this PC not as a server for streaming audio but as a dedicated PC for direct playback.

Nothing wrong with WMP, it has a straight forward interface, does what it does.
Assuming you run Win7 I would suggest to look for a player supporting WASAPI.
In my opinion it sounds better than Direct Sound, Windows default.

Foobar supports this driver but the interface is a bit to frugal for me.
My preference is J River Media Center
