Default Wanted - TELETON SAQ 206B AMPLIFIER

Bit of an unusual request, but I'm looking for a Teleton SAQ 206B amplifier, from the early 1970s. I'm afraid that this is shameful nostalgia - I am recreating a system from my childhood, but I am missing the Teleton link! I believe that this was a bit of an entry level amplifier, and they do come up from time to time, but I wondered if anyone here might just have one tucked away, that they would be prepared to part with

Let me know...here's hoping...please PM me, if you can help.

    Link to a SAQ 206B

    Many thanks and best wishes,

    Paul.

That's funny. I've been looking for one too. Or a 307.

I used to sell these in a cheap and cheerful package, consisting of a Garrard SP 25, EMI 13x9 elliptical speakers, and the amp for about £42 complete!

I know that they are not high end by any stretch I would be pairing the amp with a Bang and Olufsen Beogram 1204 and a pair of Kef Cantors...I seem to remember the sound being warm and mellow...but maybe that's me remembering with rose tinted ears!!

Not just me having the idea! I really like the look of the amp, and remember with fondness the thud, which accompained switch on...even if the speakers weren't too keen! I'm specifically after the 206B, as this is the model we had when I was young...ahh, memiories.

I had a later model for a while - had a black plastic front as I recall ..

Your desired one is on eBay at the moment with a BIN of £35 (about the same as the new price back then )
Bit of a sorry state though....

This looks like the one I had:
Not really hifi but I was well skint at the time and glad of it.

My very first "hi-fi" amp. Bought new for £19.99 ( or was it £19 19 shillings and sixpence?) from Cave's in Kingston upon Thames. Should have kept it longer. It's replacement, the 307 with slider controls, was a big disappointment ergonomically. A 206B came up on ebay very recently and I was slightly tempted for nostalgic reasons also.

    Hi Mike,

Yep...seen that one. I agree with your assessment; bit of a sorry state and no headphoe jack. I prefer the ones with the black front panel, so I'll hold out, but I was tempted with the one listed above. I also saw a 307, which is still listed, but I'm not so keen on the ergonomics and the one listed seems to have paint over the fascia. The search continues...

My father had one of the SAQ 206B models, but with a silver fascia. It was used with my "cast offs": a Garrard SP25 Mk.II with Audio Technica AT66 cartridge, and a pair of home built 1.2 cu ft distributed port enclusures using the Wharefdale RS8/DD driver.

    Happy days!
    Barry
