    I'm Andrew.

Default The 50p 78 shellac turntable mat experiment.

I've seen threads claiming that OLD shellac records are pretty good mats. I've seen some measured damping figures with old 78 shallac records used alongside record clamps and they seem to point to improved sonics. So, I'm going purchase a couple of old 78's and see if indeed the claims stack up. Be prepared for an in-depth scientific appraisal (NOT), well maybe a few paragraphs reporting back my findings. Anyone actually tried this?

No, for the simple reason that 12" diameter 78s are not that common.

My parents once had about forty or so 10" diameter 78s; but once transcribed onto tape, they were binned.
