Close in bed? Way too warm for that sort of thing

Been persistently raining here for hours, sky is cement grey all over, and rain is that fine stuff that wets you through... Working outside again today, so I'll have something else to moan about later.

The rain promised for Tuesday and Wednesday is now going to miss the East of England. So the relentless heat continues. You can have too much of a good thing.

A few months back you were complaining that the winter was endless!

Indeed... However, we are in the height of summer, so I guess we should just get used to it. Off out today to Snowdonia, to go on the Snowdonia mountain railway: http://snowdonrailway.co.uk/

Then out for dinner later at a nice country pub, should be good!

I'm all for Sun and warm but this is relentlessly too hot and with not a drop of rain for two months. If only we could have the occasional rainstorm, it would be great. As it is, the garden is parched and dying. It's close to 30c in the garden right now and too hot to work in.

I can cool down indoors, fan on at night and go out in the car with the climate control but I would prefer it being not quite so hot and have some rain to keep the garden going.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
