Default Roon Nucleus Servers Now On Demo!

    Hi Everyone,

Sometimes it really is a now brainer to bring on a new brand and this was the case when looking at the Roon Nucleus Servers, personally I have been running Roon at home for quite some time now and I really wouldn’t want to go back to life before Roon, it really is a game changer if you stream your music.

Roon can be a little difficult to explain but one thing is for sure once you have experienced it then there is no going back. Basically if you stream your music then Roon is the ultimate app, the one app to rule all other apps really, it is an extremely metadata rich piece of software which you control from your phone, tablet or computer that has so much information embedded in it that browsing your music collection becomes a real adventure. For Roon to work then the Roon Core needs to be running somewhere, this is where the Roon Nucleus products come in, these are optimised to give you the best Roon experience and they really do work, for ages I had been struggling to get the Roon Core to see my Synology Nas drive when installed on my MAC, in the end I gave up but as soon as I installed our new demo Nucleus+ at the weekend it saw my Nas straight away and started scanning my music collection straight away.

A word of warning, don’t try Roon unless you are willing to sign up for the yearly or lifetime subscription packages as once you have tried Roon there really is no going back. As good as other streaming apps are nothing comes close to the ease of use, beautiful interface and information contained within Roon, basically it is the ultimate interface for managing and streaming your music. It can be a little complicated to start with but with the Roon Nucleus products this has been made extremely easy and will also give you the best Roon experience, personally I love Roon Radio, baically once an album has finished that you have selected Roon will carry on playing similar music to that album using your muisc collection and Tidal which is a great way to find new music.

So if Roon sounds like something you would like to experience and discuss in more depth then please feel free to come into HFL to see what all the fuss is about.

    Paul.

Is it true that, once you've tried Roon, there is no going back?

Nope, tried numerous trials and just don't get it, far too expensive for what it does. I know plenty people like it, but me, no.

Tied to Tidal only doesn't help either.

Best idea is to do the 2 week trial and decide for yourself. But for me it's a very expensive Tidal front end with a search engine added, I know that's a kind of simplistic view, but that's all I get from it.

I have the necessary hardware to run it at its best too.

Like I say trial it, can use multiple email addresses to get multiple 2 week trials, I've had 5 lol.

What, less than £7.50 a month for Roon and when partnered with Tidal Hifi (lossless) a total of £27.50 for all the musical content you can wish for, at a high enough res for most Audiophools? Sounds like a steal to me!

It amalgamates all your stored content together and combines with the Streamed music service and delivers all the meta data needed for a near 'tactile' experience. I got so pissed off trying DIY methods and faffing with Rpi's. IP address's then LMS announces they only support 500 Tidal titles in your library! That's pants. So for me it was the only way. If JRiver supported Tidal (?) then I probably wouldn't have bothered..

I think it's best at what it does at the moment. One has to pay for premium services.

I could easily spunk a lot more on £27 a month experimenting with unknown Lps or CDs !

I spent a lot more on TV subscriptions and never watch the thing!

Tidal doesn't have many of the artists I like.

I don't like the Tidal interface compared to Spotify. I dislike the Roon interface, is there a way to change the sideways scrolling? Cos that just drives me nuts, if you're using a smartphone or tablet to control Roon sideways scroll is hopeless, far more intuitive to scroll vertically. In fact this annoys me on the pc too.

I currently pay £14.99 for 6 Family members and £0.00 for the software, but I'll be honest cost doesn't come into it for me, it's the user experience that does it for me, and unfortunately the lack of my preferred genre /artists and the interface is enough to make it a no, sorry.

Nope. I said too expensive for that it does.

£120 to use Tidal which I can do for free using the Tidal app ( monthly charge not withstanding) or any other app that can control Tidal such as bubble upnp etc.

£120 to search related artists etc. Can do that for free using Google, or just use the providers app, Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz all list related artists when you play a track.

When I spend £100-200 a month on music I don't think another £30 would kill me

Like I say at the end of the day what I won't pay for is the lack of support for other providers or poor interface (the scrolling just being one issue) or for things that can be had for free that work for better for me.

Edit: Forgot to say earlier, I still have 2 months left of a 3 month trial on Tidal, I haven't used it for the last 2 weeks. Too many albums only giving 30 sec snippets etc. Spotify is a better option for my family. I tried Tidal for the umpteenth time to see if I could use Tidal for myself and just have Spotify Family for everyone else, but it wasn't any good for me content wise, in fact it was worse so I haven't continued using it.
