My main preamp is a Yamaha CX-10000 that I adore, but other than that i have:

    Amps
    B&O Beolab 5000
    Naim Supernait
    Yamaha A-1
    Yamaha A-960II

    Power Amps
    Yamaha AST-A10
    Yamaha M-70
Yamaha MX-800 (currently on a well know auction website...)
    Yamaha PC-5002M
Yamaha B2 - a very special version with no VFETs

Receivers (well, they have amplifiers in 'em!)
    B&O Beomaster 5000
    B&O Beomaster 8000
    Yamaha CR-500

Of the integrateds, the Supernait never fails to impress me, but the Yamaha A-960II is a bit of a giant killer. Out of the power amps, the PC-5002M is an everything killer! As to the receivers, lets just say the Beomaster 8000 is one of the last components I would ever let go.

Having settled on using Quad ESLs (57s) for the last forty years, the amplification I use has to suit electrostatic speakers. At the moment the amplification used is as follows:

    Pre amps
Mark Levinson ML10A (used as a phonostage) into a
    Mark Levinson ML28

    or a

Mark Levinson ML25 phonostage into either the ML28 or a
    Mark Levinson ML26

These are connected via 15m balanced line interconnects to -

Monoblock poweramps (located directly behind each speaker, so as to minimise the length of the speaker cable):

    Mark Levinson ML-2

    or

Quad 510 (150W amplifier using an output transformer, but limited to 17V rms output (= 30W) for use with the Quad 57s)
    or
    Modified Quad 405s
(modified, 'monoblocked' and upgraded by Duncan (tubehunter) to Keith Snook Mod Level 3, with improved components: Dale PRP 1% resistors; Z-foils in key areas; new inductors and more accurate bridge components; Elna Cerafine capacitors; uprated 20A output transistors and improved power supplies using a pair of 35A bridge rectifiers and 22,000uF F&T reservoir capacitors). Further modified by me to have an non-inverting balanced line input, and sensitivity reduced to 1V for full output.

    Other amplifiers available:

Quad 520 135W dual channel amplifier (used in second system)
    Quad 405-1 (modified)
Quad 405-2 (modified with NET dual mono power supply)
    Quad 405-2 (lightly modified)
    Quad 50E monoblock amplifiers (x3)
    Quad 303
Quad 303K (a 303 fited with XLR connectors)
Radford STA15 Mk.III (15w/channel fitted with Mullard (Blackburn Road) EL34 output valves, and Telefunken/Siemens & Halske small signal valves)
    Cambridge P50 25W/channel integrated amp

    Preamps:
    Quad 33
    Hafler DH101
    Sugden C51
    Linn LINNK phonostage (modified)

I've only one amp left, a Luxman L590ax. Class A seems to suit the Lockwoods.

Clean Class A solid state does seem to work well with Tannoys.

I have an instinctual liking for ML stuff Barry, but the £££££££££s.

It would be very interesting to group AB test your modded Quad stuff against the standard factory ones.
