    Cool Happy Father's Day, everyone!!

To all the dad's on AoS. Hope your kids are spoiling you rotten today!

I'm spoiling mine with a nice meal and a few drinkies...

Starting off with a few chilled Aperol spitzers, then onto the starter, which will be Del's home-made spinach and ricotta crespelle, followed by spezzatino di capretto al vino rosso (goat stew, marinated in red wine and herbs), and served with polenta.

The starter will be served with a bottle of Bardolino, and the main a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino. Then onto dessert, which will be a signature one of Del's, a freshly-made fruit Zabaglione, see here:

That will be served with some Italian biscotti and Vin Santo sweet wine. Just going out to set the table now, as it's nice enough here to eat al fresco! Laters, muchachos

    Marco.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Mine wouldn't piddle on me if I was on fire.

I am not complaining at all, because when they used to see me it was solely for emptying my wallet with their hard luck stories.

My older daughter went all the way to Corfu to get out of taking me for a fathers day meal. Sent me a nice text this morning though, and my younger daughter treated me to lunch yesterday.

Oh and Marco if you're reading this, her fiancé's family who live in Italy, are actually in Tuscany. She's going over again in August, flying to Pisa. No doubt she'll take plenty of pictures, which I'll put on here if I ever learn how to...

I lost my dad in 1991 and we had a difficult relationship in the years before his death but he was a lovely dad when I was young and since his passing my sister and I have become very close. I still think of him very fondly. The photo is of dad during his Royal Navy service in Japan as Communications Chief Petty Officer.
