Yes. In fact most people don't look great in shorts and anybody over fifty should have a really good think about how they look in them.

Yup, but again it largely depends on the individual. I'm quite tall, so have long legs, and as I do a lot of walking, they're quite muscular. Plus, being olive-skinned, they're not milk-bottle white, like those of most Brits, so I look ok in shorts

Of course, there are shorts, and there are shorts.... They've got to be the right kind! Clue: the WRONG kind, are those you used to wear in PE as a teenager

The last time I wore shorts my daughter asked me what my tattoo was, when I got closer she realised it was the elegant cluster of broken veins surrounding my right knee... Some people think it looks like Peter Crouch

Things were more straightforward twenty five years ago. There were clear social divisions and attire said everything.

Collar & tie: bank worker, office knob, lawyer

    Jeans: ordinary folk

    Shell suit: scumbags

    The categories were neatly defined!

I disagree. See my last post. I don't wear them until October, and only on the hottest summer days, simply to stay cool.

Just because you'd look daft in them with your skinny wee milky-white legs, doesn't mean others can't carry it off!

Oh, and what about chav track-suits?

There are those who can get away with wearing shorts though.

Comfortable jeans cost too much these days. Don't mind paying thirty quid but ninety quid is taking the piss.

I've dressed like a scumbag for decades. Simple reason is I've always lived in rough areas and it is helpful to blend in so you don't get bothered. You don't see piranhas eating each other.

In terms of jeans, I buy exclusively 501s, as I like the fit and the quality of the denim is second to none. Plus, only dorks wear zip-ups!

They cost me around £70 and last for YEARS. They also look good when they fade a little bit. Simply buy three pairs and interchange them as necessary, and you're sorted for a very LONG time.

Therefore, you have to look not just at the initial cost of jeans, but how long they'll last!

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
