What about suits? I was talking to a young chap the other day who thought they were the be all and end all as far as clothing goes. For me they are totally boring, especially the jackets. OK, I can see the elegance aspect in a well cut outfit on a good figure but that aside 'good' suits tend to be mostly plain and of a similar style and as I say, boring as hell. I used to have one for every day of the week when I was working back in the 80's but it was the only option really in an office back then. Thank God jeans and sandals are normally acceptable these days.

When I was a hippy teenager, we used to call blokes in suits 'stiffs'.

I spent thirty five years working in various civil engineering offices surrounded by 'stiffs' in suits or at least collar & tie and I got away with jeans and teeshirt the whole time. Wasn't much they could do about it anyway.

Not ok, but out on the street, *marginally* more acceptable. If you're at the beach, and they're worn without socks, then like flip-flops, they're fine. However, I personally don't wear either under any circumstances. If I'm at the beach during the summer, then it's strictly bare feet (with a T-shirt and shorts).

Incidentally, do you hold the same views about women wearing sandals?

I'm same as you, I will not wear sandals or flip flops even at the beach or the pool, there it is barefoot only. Saw a bloke the other day wearing shorts and flip flops walking down the street by my house. Had his little daughter with him. He's probably scarred her for life.

Worse still last time I was at my brothers his son was wearing sandals, I had a quiet word, don't think he'll be doing it again. It's up to us all to make a stand against it, especially with Brexit coming up.

I possess several pairs of jeans; they are all black and all have zip flys. I wear them when gardening, or in winter. Denim is too uncomfortable to wear in the heat.

(Anyway, one can't wear a tie whilst wearing jeans!)

I loathed the fashion style of the '70s: flared trousers; loon pants; skinny-rib pullovers; tight fitting shirts with huge collars, and clumpy platform shoes.
