Lol... I understand, but I simply don't do 'top-up' shopping, or walking about with carrier bags. Del catches that in her car, on her way home from work. Otherwise, the main 'shop' is done in one swoop together, once a week, in my car.
When I'm out and about on foot, I like to feel as free and as unencumbered by 'stuff' as possible. I even hate wearing a jacket unless I have to
Plus, any shops I'd use are further away from me than half a mile (more like 2 miles), so I can't really just 'pop to the shops'.

That's the sort of thing I use when backpacking, and need to carry a sleeping bag and a couple of Sigg waterbottles.
Actually if I'm just popping down to the shops, I'm more likely to take a small backpack with me, rather than a shopping bag.
I would also use one for the supermarket because I don't like carrying things in my hands, but for me the supermarket is only 500 yards away so I don't bother.

Precisely, me neither, and that also includes wearing rucksacks/backpacks, although they're infinitely better [in a different league altogether] from 'man bags'. Being a non-smoker and 'unmarried' to a mobile phone, or any other technological paraphernalia, also helps one feel 'free' when walking about!

Nor do I, that's why I prefer to use a backpack or someting I can carry on my shoulder. When travelling I won't use a suitcase, much preferring a holdall which I carry with the handles over my shoulder.
Apropos drip-feed shopping: well I like to get out every day when I can to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as the occasional croissant.
