    Default Audio Technica ART9

Well I got 6hrs on this cart so far. It has very similar dimensions to the Dl-301 so instalation was a snap. Oh, I stuck a little dab of blue tack on the nuts and stuck in place on the cart so screwing the screws from the top was a breeze! Oh man, the magnet on this thing could pick up nails from a roofing job! Anyways the first thing I noticed was the soundstage; how huge it is! And the soundstage on the DL-301 is no slouch. The ART9 has better highs, detail and bass than the DL-301. But then again its in a different snack bracket! And everybody kept asking me how much better can it get? It was hard to imagine cause the Denon is a great cart for the price. I just wanted a cart to end my quest for a great table/cart combo; to retire with. I read that it takes up to 100hrs to fully break-in. Oh, the first thing that I noticed when I played a old Nancy Sinatra record was the BLAT from the horns! Just great!
    Cheers, Doug

    Hi Doug,

I'm really interested in your finding as I have an ART7 On the way for a loan. I've heard it a couple of times and felt it had a slightly warmer presentation than the Kontrapunkt b. What's your thoughts on its tonal presentation?

Well, coming from a Denon DL-301mk2, its tone is very good. But I think it will come into its own even after a longer break in period. The cart comes across as balanced with very little highlighted. I have read that the ART7 is a little warmer than the ART9.

You may be right there. It's actually a really nice cartridge. Keep us updated on your progress

This seems to be the next logical step on the cartridge ladder for me.

Any ideas how it compares with the AT33PTG/II?

I have both PTG ii and Art9, as you say its a natural step and along with AT's hierarchy the more you spend the better they get.

They have very similar traits with the 9 having even better articulated bass. On 1st listen it may appear leaner, when in fact its cleaner.

The Art7 is a bit off field with even lower output, I have AT37 with ruby cantilever which is its predecessor and it's noticeably quieter needing a few extra notches on the volume control.

If I were buying new, I'd consider the Shelter 501, also heard good things about Zyx but thats the one brand I've not got my hands on...yet

Got one on order and extremely excited to hear what all the excitement is about. I wanted something that was a bit more exciting than the Zyx.

This is my first Audio Technica cart, and I am blown away by what I'm hearing so far! My previous carts; Denon 103r/Pulse body, Dyna 10x5, Denon DL-301mk2 and last but not least..Denon DL-S1.
