Default New Chinese pre amp purchase

Despite saying a few weeks ago I wouldn't buy any more stuff I've been on a minor spending spree recently and this is the latest purchase. Reviews online (mainly Amazon) indicate it's pretty good with upgraded valves so I couldn't resist it. I always ignore reviews that say things like "this is a brilliant upgrade, it's like night and day compared to my £250 Sony receiver" but in this case a few of them seem to have decent gear to compare it against.

As with a few members here I currently use a Little Dot tube headphone amp.
As this is fitted with a single line input it is better thought of as a tube preamp with headphone output......
For the price, 140 quid....the build and sound quality are superb.

The payoff.....supplied chinese tubes are best thought of like bundled leads, enough to get you started but quickly upgraded....they are rather poor
The ones supplied with my amp were noisey, microphonic and lacking in detail.

Watford Valves will be able to supply you with a selection of much better tubes.
I ordered a matched set and noticed immediate gains.

    Totally agree Nigel

I found using some Russian Sovtek valves to be perfectly fine without the huge price of NOS valves

I had a Nobsound integrated amp for quite a while - it was based on the John Linsley Hood circuit and sounded excellent.
I think rrp is around £170 - just ridiculously good vfm.

That reminds me I've got a few Russian premium matched gold pin valve sets for little dots I don't need anymore...
