I would not remove anything, not the "dust cap" or the four screws, if you loosen or remove them you will affect the alignment of the voice coil in the magnetic gap.
However, you can very carefully check for continuity by connecting a sharp pin to a multimeter probe and probing the very delicate wires for continuity. If a break is found, careful soldering may fix the problem.

You really need sharp pins, there is often clear silicone sealant over the thin wires.
Difficult to see the the right hand wire looks a bit dodgy, have a closer look.

A friend has these spare tweeters ( same plate size )
Would they be ok ? They’re 8ohm too

Worth a try. I think those were a higher power rated version if I recall.

They are the KO10DT, if I recall were a little later and a bit cheaper. Probably be worth a try.
