I'm John.
Yes, I saw that Marco. Fortunately I stocked up for the weekend today. Should be OK.
Had the car serviced and MOT'd today. It was a large bill as amongst other things the cam belt was changed. I tried to pay using my Visa cash card, but to no avail. I used a Mastercard instead.
We are going to have more of this sort of thing happening in the future, as banks close their branches and expect eveyone to embrace the 'cashless society'. The problem is the software systems in use have changed little in thirty years, are hopelessly out of date, and completely need replacing. Unfortunately with increasing globalisation the system (and problem) is so large that this task is impossible to achieve. The banks and financial institutions all know this but they are not letting on - they just hope they can "muddle on" through.

I'm Paul.
Yeah, tried to buy something today and had to run round to the cash machine to draw the cash out.

Visa debit fell over at Waitrose for me tonight, I had to use a Mastercard credit card.
Always have cash on me, never pay on card unless it is more than a couple of hundred quid, which is very rare. Cash is anonymous. if we get rid of cash how is the black economy supposed to work? Barter?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
