Personally, I think the main sonic thing that spikes do is to raise the speakers off the floor, and if they are under stands anyway then they become superfluous!

Good idea - I will do some experimenting over the next couple of weeks.

Trying out a Nait 2 which arrived this morning;

I like the shoebox style, and am thinking about adding a Bluesound Node 2i - this would mean no need for a CD player, and I could then think about smaller speakers than the ESL63s, and convince my wife that I have been diligently downsizing.
