I used to use a Shure V15 III with the SME 3009 (non-improved) many years ago. It should work very well in your 3009 (improved) arm, as this arm has a lower effective mass than the previous, non-improved, version.

I wouldn't worry about Shure creasing to manufacture cartridges. There must be many tens of thousand of them out there, so replacement stylii will remain available for a long time to come. Bid with confidance.

Thanks guys for the affirmative response.... but what I was hoping for in addition was to find anyone who has experience of the Jico stylus or Thacker variant for the V15 111... prior to the current Denon dl110. I was using a Goldring 1042. but a cleaning mishap bent the cantilever...which brings me to the point where I’m considering the Shure instead of replacing the Goldring stylus......thanks in advance

Got a kick sas for one of my m55's. Certainly a fine upgrade if you like it more refined. I prefer my nos shure stylus personally but that's just me. Most folk prefer the fancy jico. But they are about 150/200£ these days.
    The.V 15 will be similar I think

They only cost that much if you buy the NEO SAS variants and they are currently out of stock.

My vibe would be to get an AT530 or 540 for the SME...

I have two V15 III's here, one in LM form in a Dual carrier for the 701 and relatives. It's a hard and relentless beast with original stylus (and I LIKE a flat response from cartridges!). The HE stylus made a huge improvement for whatever reason and to my eternal shame, I never got one (it was favourably reviewed in 'Choice too). I believe Shure did an MR stylus for it too, but I don't know how 'different' it is and not certain any came over here.

The SAS stylus for the M97XE is supposedly excellent and it certainly measures better for it - loads on the net if you trawl. Again, not sure (sorry) also, how the Jico SAS assembly translates to the V15 III design.

Sorry, I can't even place ANY M55E's in the same category. 1964/65 model with built in thick bass, dirty diamond even on the mk2 version with flip-down stylus guard and hf suck-out followed by a 15k peak which can kill some phono stages. I remember it was classed as past it by the M75-ED period in the early 70's and my own sample isn't anything to write home about, with bass thickening and to me, a cloudy presentation, even in a period deck. A good 75-ED is so much more musical and tracks better too I think... To counter my views, the 55E tone seems to vibe well with SPU and DL103 fans, where Iprefer something a bit livelier like the aforementioned AT's which may kind-of carry the V15 II baton more...

The M75/91 ED doesn't measure well by modern standards, but the hf suck-out is heard as a beefier bass and solid midrange musicality, rather than dullness I find. I *think* new/old 91-ED's can be got at a price if you look around... In an SME 'Improved,' I feel it would be far better than an M55E, mechanically and sonically. If you use the SME headshell, the blac-tac they provided later on, seems to smooth the slight sonic brashness in the arm as well and this really helps the V15 III to sound as open as it can in my experience...

    Default Shure V15. 111

    Finally managed to get myself a V15 111.....with a vn35e-m stylus.Can anybody explain what the “m”
designation stands for.The shure is an excellent match for the Sme 3009 improved and its impact is immediate.I can now define the difference between bass and the fact that it is being produced by a double
bass and the stereo imaging is much sharper. One issue that has arisen is that I now have a constant hum
when I’m using the Shure in an Sme headshell.Ive cleaned the headshell contacts with deoxit but this hasn’t helped. If I switch back to the Denon.. no problem...any ideas....

It might be a good idea for you to download a SHURE cartridge manual from that era, they are available on vinylengine forum and this should answer all your questions.

Those Thakker replacement styluses are made by Jico. Some mid to high end stylus they do should be good or descent at least. But I've also read some negative experience with some more of the "acceptable" entry level replacement stylus. Can't recall which ones, but those negative experiences seemed genuine and not "anti-jaco" propaganda or the typical internet/"social"-media rant.

And I have a friend who buys his mid entry replacement conical large stylus tip for vintage 45rpms to fit his his Stanton cartridge and he's always happy with them at first. Mind you they are mounted stylus and so last less than nude ones. Either way, you can try to source NOS Shure stylus for your V15 III as well and buy a Thakker replacement one and compare for yourself. The best way to know.
