Put them in packing crates and wheel them out when the accountants say there is tourist money to be made. Maybe some of it will make up for the way overprivileged lives these people lead. Bottom line is they live in a bubble so we should just get them out on show when they can pay their way. I dont want photo opportunities about landmines when the arms industry continues apace.

Dont give them a voice on anything important and they really should be paying their way. They are just the odd family at number 42 as far as Im concerned. I would scrap the lot of it and send them down the coal mines.

It perpetuates the class system, inequality and a system rooted in feudalism.

Show me the accounts and we can have a debate about a figurehead or token royalty for the tourists. Get them signing some t shirts in trafalgar square but put them to real work. Im being lenient because it does bring money into the economy but I need to double check what we are paying them from taxes. They dont care about us and I dont listen to damn thing they say
I think they do pay their way although these things are not an exact science. In any case it is a job, check out how many official appearances they have to make, the Queen was doing over 200 days a year until recently.

The landmine thing was just Diana. The royals are not supposed to express an opinion on anything political and by and large they don't.

It is a life of privilege in that you don't have to make your own breakfast but the trade off is you will never get to live like a normal person where you can just go down the shops or the pub with no bother. I'm not sure I would swap, all the yachts and polo matches and that would get boring, things you can buy with money are not the important things in life.

Lots of people really love it, here and abroad. Why would I want to ruin it for them? I'm fine with people having and enjoying it all as long as I don't have to do anything.

I've never understood the whole 'class' thing either. Who cares if someone is rich and lives in a big house in the country? Good luck to them. I just get on with my own life.

She only had the one sibling, who died more than 15 years ago. I think that, world-wide, far more fuss is made over the Pope.

I can understand it as a jealous/envious response (I struggle to distinguish between the two) from someone who is poor themselves, and struggling to cope, but for the likes of most of us, who are comfortably off, I don't understand it either, though I'm fascinated by the nuances of snobbery.

Yeah, not siblings (wrong word), but anyone of significance attached to the royal family.

In terms of the bit in bold, yes and rightly so. The Pope, through his Christian preaching and innumerable charitable acts worldwide, caring for the needy, connects with and impacts on the lives of far more people. Ultimately, there are many more folk in this world who follow the word of God, than the (rather vulgar) over-privileged lives of the Royals.

The Queen is head of the Church Of England. So in that respect she is a bit like the Pope. And the C of E does a load of charity stuff too.

That's rarely been my experience. The genuinely poor [those with no money or a roof over their heads] are usually far too occupied with trying to survive, and taking care of themselves, to worry about anyone else.

Jealousy (envy is a less insidious and gentler emotion), is usually more something that the working and/or middle-classes are guilty of, whenever they see someone get something that they want, or have succeeded to better themselves in a way that they would have liked, but haven't yet managed.

One of worst examples of that is when working class people with previously little or no opportunities, often living in deprived areas, choose to educate themselves and/or work hard to escape from their surroundings, and if they succeed, it subsequently causes resentment from those around them in the same circumstances, jealous of their success.

'He's no longer one of us, so fuck him', or 'who the fuck does he think he is, trying to be a snob?', is often the rather ignorant and distasteful mantra. Trying to keep someone down, simply because watching them succeed irks you, is a truly abhorrent trait, and one of the worst examples there is of jealousy.

Yes, but unlike the Pope, she doesn't go preaching her faith all over the world, continually holding masses, taking the word of God to millions of people. That pretty much guarantees, along with many other things, that there will always be more 'fuss' made of him than the Queen.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
