    Agree 1000%

If they'd stick to the sports pages and specialist programmes I'd be more than happy ... but unfortunately they don't

I agree that all the big events sporting or otherwise are completely overblown by the media, little wonder so many people get pissed off with them. This time next week it will be old news.

I just think the point is two young people got married, good luck and happiness to them.

    Hi Mike,

Could you provide some real-world examples of that, as I must be looking in the wrong places... The only time I've seen that kind of thing is when some 'playboy' footballer, or other sportsman, has been a 'naughty boy', as it were, so his misdemeanours are splattered all over the front pages instead!

Or we'll get it soon, when the English media go overboard, as usual, on England's chances of winning the World Cup!!

Sometimes I think they should be called the EBC, rather than the BBC

    Hi Marco,

Not my argument I know, but here's a real-life example for you...

Mrs. P: "Bollocks! they've took off Coronation Street again to show a live football match featuring teams that only two towns in the whole country give a shit about."

"Never mind, they'll just show Corrie later, or tomorrow or something."

"Oh ok, they're putting it on at 10pm. I'll watch it then."

"Hang on, that clashes with my 'Sheep Diddlers caught on Camera' programme."

"Well record it and watch it after me Corrie is finished."

"So it'll be 11.30 by the time it's finished, and I wanted an early night, what with having to perform brain surgery on that ginger bloke tomorrow. Plus, you know how my programme gets me fired up, and you'll be asleep by then."

But this inconvenience is only for one week every ten years or so, right? WRONG! It happens time and time again, and the Whirled Cup is only gonna be worse.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.
Speakers: Zu Omen Def, REL T9i subwoofer. Cables: Atlas Equator interconnects, Atlas Hyper 3.0 speaker cables

    T'other system:
Echo Dot, Amptastic Mini One,Arcam A75 integrated, Celestion 5's, BK XLS-200 DF

    A/V:
LG 55" OLED, Panasonic Blu Ray, Sony a/v amp, MA Radius speakers, REL Storm sub

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

No problem ... last night's BBC 2 schedule:
8:30 onwards; string of programmes as tribute to John Motson and his sterling work as a football commentator - immediately followed at 10:35 by 'The Damned United' "The story of Brian Clough's 44 day stint as manager of Leeds United Football Club that takes place in 1974 England. "
    - at which point I could have turned over to BBC1 to get away from it and be treated to 'Match of The Day' recap of the FA Cup final that was broadcast from 4:10 until 7:40 earlier in the day.

    Good enough??

The examples you've given are all of "specialist programmes" [read as produced to cover their core subject] - and those watching them, one would presume would be interested in that subject.

I'm talking about when a particular subject, say for talking sake, sport, infiltrates or takes over other programmes that have nothing whatsoever to do with sport. For example, if football took over a cookery programme, or whatever, which was what was happening this week, in the run up to the royal wedding, in terms of wedding gossip...

In essence, royal wedding gossip present where it shouldn't be.

That's what my point is about, not the frequency of sport or football programmes on TV, or for that matter material relating to the royal family. I trust you can appreciate the difference?

Not really - the only one that classes as a 'specialist programme' was 'Match of the Day which is a regular football 'feature'.
The rest was just schedule polluting garbage as far as I'm concerned.
And incidentally John Motson had already appeared in a number of 'normal' programmes to talk about his career ... otherwise I'd never heard of him before.
