Keep your distance, watch your speed, use your mirrors before making any manouvre needless to say particularly before overtaking.
And as my Dad always said since we were kids, 'read the road !' ie: anticipate and never assume the obvious
I'd add to that lot, drive to the conditons of the road - Times I've seen 'nutters' hammering it along the fast lane in the wet
The French "autoroutes" are quite good, they have a 130kph limit in normal conditions, and 110kph in the wet. Most of it (outside of Paris) is two lanes, and works well.If you're barrelling along in the fast lane and come upon a slower car, they almost always get out of the way sharpish. Unlike British motor ways where people stubbornly stick to their favourite lane, for fear of "losing their place".
Also, because of the toll roads, most motorists will stick with the lesser roads for local journeys, unlike us who will use the motorway to hop from one junction to the next.
It's always a real comedown when returning to the UK with its four full-to-bursting lanes and endless roadworks.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in
