You're still missing the point, mate... Whilst watching the programmes you've mentioned, it wouldn't have been a surprise for football to have been discussed, as it would've been pretty much a given that those watching them would've been into football, and specifically the topics in question. Yes?

Whereas, royal wedding gossip being discussed on the likes of a cookery programme, would've been a surprise, and more importantly, it would NOT HAVE BEEN A GIVEN that those watching would have been interested!

Do you see where I'm coming from now? It's all about ensuring that the programme content is going to be of interest to the vast majority of the target audience, rather than the TV companies dictating to you what you should be interested in.

What I object to mainly, is the presumption that we should all be flag-waving royalists, whether we like it or not!

Lol - any kind of rampant, rather arrogant, bias like that does my head in.

All this time that people are devoting to this thread is getting in the way of the important issues, like STD's and explosive diarrhoea.

The question you have to ask yourself is would the 'Motty mania', such as you've outlined, have been reciprocated if the football commentator in question had been, say, Archie Macpherson [look him up], and thus if it hadn't have given the English media another chance to wax lyrical about England and all things English?

No need. Archie was the King of football commentators. Motty was a very poor second, or third, or forth if we're going to include Bob Crampsey and possibly even Arthur Montford.

To be honest Marco - I don't give a rat's arse who Motson or Macpherson are, what they do (or did) for a living and what country they might be from, so it's not a question I will be even remotely considering asking.

It interests me about as much as how long it takes a blade of grass to turn into manure .... just hope the BBC don't deem to fill a whole evening with that vexing question.

That's fair enough, mate. I must admit that blatant English bias, in the (supposedly) British media, is one of my MAJOR bugbears [and I see this royal wedding mania partly as evidence of that]... It's long been a 'thing' for me. Anyway, we'll leave that one there for now

    Lol - I agree. At least you're suitably open-minded!

As an aside, do you think the BBC or ITV would've devoted the same amount of coverage to him or Arthur Montford?

Anyway, I've made my point, for now....
