I've spoken with my spanish students (all republican) and say this. If the royal family are in it for themselves then they airways have an eye on two things, the country and their future. A president thinks of himself and only of 5 years. I don't agree with extended family having the life of Riley, but the Queen and her children all do a great deal for the country, for themselves maybe - but we live in it and share the benefits. No monarch wants to reign over a country populated with sick, unemployed, disaffected people. Politicians fuck things up, set the taxes, hold referendums etc. We vote for them and pay for our mistakes. That's democracy. But the one constant eye that guards the future is in the palace.

Our Royals didn't choose to be who they are, they were born into it. I guess they could opt out, but what would happen to them? They'd be vulnerable to every nutter out there, just for being who they are. It's not a situation I'd want to be confronted with.

However, I think it's wrong for an individual or individuals to be put on pedestals and regarded with awe, this is complete nonsense. These people are exactly that, just people and no different to you or I!

The French and Russians found their own solutions. But that's just not British................I expect!

And if they get too uppity, we just chop their heads off.

Not anti royals by any means. The main ones have their uses and are worth their salt And you can't really have them living in a tenement. But, there are far too many hangers on. Tbh I'd have them before politicians.

And that goes for hookers too

I watched some of it and skipped over a few bits but I'm happy for them both, it's given a lot of people a lift, not a bad thing.
