    Default Hello

Hello, I'm new to posting at The Art of Sound though I've been lurking for a long time. I have a deep love for music, perhaps because I am the son of a music teacher, and have been fortunate to have worked in the music industry for 30 years.

Whilst I am happy to stream in the car or at work, my home system is CD only. My perhaps controversial belief is that red book CD playback is the best format to optimise a system around. My electronics are by Vitus, speakers by B&W, cables by Townshend, mains cables by Shunyata, ground control by CAD, speaker supports by Isoacoustic and system support by Quadraspire onto Townshend isolation.

My musical tastes vary wildly from John Martyn to Daft Punk via Bach, Mingus and Abba, but common to everything is a dislike of hyper-compression. Worse of all the use of added compression in the remastering of old master tapes.

I look forward to engaging with this fine community.

Hi Peter, welcome to the forum.

I'm also a fan of good old red book cd. If you can avoid the compressed versions and optimise the system for it then it's as close to listening directly to the master as you'll ever get.

One day the rest of the hi-fi world will catch up with us. Keep the faith!
