Wtd: pre amp to suit 300B power amp with input sensitivity of 0.5VpK and input impedance of 100k OHM.
I've bought a glasshouse passive but there's no sound until I get 3/4 around the dial.
Less than £300 and compact if possible.
Thanks

I don't know. That's from the spec sheet in the manual. It's a trafomatic 300b power amp.

Found it, peak voltage rather than RMS. I thought it meant volts per something which didn't make sense.

That's why you need excess gain, cos of the quiet bits. I'd say a standard pre should see you through nicely.
What makes a stonker for three hundred quid I can't say, but there will be one out there!

Should the passive I have work then? There is nothing until 3 o clock then at fully open it's still pretty quiet

I'm no expert but I'm surprised at the result, what speakers are you using?

Did you hear the power amp working ok before you took it away?
Assuming the power amp is ok then this pre might not be very fashionable but is very good for the money:
