    Default BMW recalls vehicles.

Have you seen the news about this?

The wiring harness from the battery to the fusebox is prone to shorting out and consequently cutting the engine out and even causing a fire in some cases.

Astonishing, but perhaps not that surprising, I recently watched a recent Audionote factory tour which includes Peter Qvortrup's garage, where he talked about modern car design substituting good engineering with cheap electronic gadgets.

I have to agree with him, seems to be happening across the board with modern cars.

Would that be why their direction indicators never seem to work?

    It's a German thing, Audi's don't work either!

Yep, I saw it mentioned last night on Watchdog. It's worth noting, however, that it only applies to BMW 3-Series models, from 2007-2011. I believe anything else out with of that is unaffected.

I agree though with your point about 'cheap' electronic gadgets, although when it comes to replacing them on a BMW, they're usually far from cheap! Thankfully, there have been no such issues so far with Mercs.

Marco, you should watch that Audionote factory tour video, Peter Qvortrup is a bit of a Mercedes aficionado and has very strong views on what Mercedes are producing now compared to the early 90s, which he described as a peak of engineering perfection but has gone downhill since, I know many people who would agree.

I'm one of them. A C180 Kompressor (2008) was the most troublesome car I've ever owned...and I've owned three Citroens!

Yup, certainly I would, because I fully acknowledge things have gone down hill since then. Mine is from late 2008, a C350 Elegance CDI (before the Brabus mods). It was a top-spec C-Class, as standard, and one of the last quality Mercs, where the inside isn't 'boy racer', shiny silver plastic-trim heaven!

Most of the new ones now, I wouldn't touch with a bargepole (too blingy inside and cheap looking for the price), and I don't like the shape, all of which is why my next car is unlikely to be another Merc. It's time I tried a nice Audi or an Alfa, although I plan on keeping my current one for a while yet!
