“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Nice here. 23C and blue, if slightly hazy sky.

The haze makes me think it could be humidity. I wonder if we'll get a shower later.

Ah, no worries. As we've discussed before, they really should've sorted out proper segregation, for smokers and non-smokers, when they introduced the smoking ban

It's warm enough here, currently at 20°C, but dull and overcast. I'm hoping for much better tomorrow!

I seem to remember a time when players would be interviewed for TV pre- or post-match, these days it only ever seems to be coaches and managers who get to speak. Is this because most of our players don't speak English?

If this makes me seem clueless about football, that's because I am. Remember the boy who got put in goal in the film "Kes"? That's me that is.

I would not pretend to be any expert either, last time I went to a match was 1979. But my old man was absolutely nuts about it so some of that inevitably rubbed off. I used to enjoy playing it at primary school even though I was rubbish. Secondary school the standard was much higher making me look even worse so I packed it in.

Probably more a PR management type thing. Most foreign players can speak English.

I know the players don't like doing the interviews so maybe that's why? It's not like the old days when they had no choice in the matter.
