I went the RP1 route then added a performance pack.

Compared it to a well set up Lenco gl75.....bought one!!!

I bought treasured albums to have a vinyl capability-it really is a rabbit hole financially.....IMHO digital with a PC/MAC/DAC is bang for buck in another league.

Vinyl done well is sublime but rather expensive and convulted....YMMV.

    Default System overhaul...of sorts.

The equipment Doesnt have to be tbh, but the media can be. My tt and phono, plus all the bits is maybe £750 now, although that is more than needs spending tbh. Still, in comparison to mid priced amps etc its pretty reasonable.
But, and its a big but, the media and shipping of it unless you have a good secondhand store on doorstep can mount up to serious cash pretty quickly. Ive probably got 7 grand out on vinyl, and my collection isnt big..

EDIT:..then there is a vacuum cleaner, which is needed if you want best out of it; they are expensive too..

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

if you have an addiction to collecting more than enjoying music then don't start on vinyl. I only have around 50 albums but that hasn't stopped me spending a good amount on my vinyl set up, because I want my treasured albums to sound as good as they do.

I can understand the lure of turntables, it's the way the tonearms wave at you...

It can be very expensive if you're starting from scratch, but if you buy a decent used deck, and maybe try record shops for good s/hand copies, it may be ok. Then give yourself a few months to see if it is for you, and then if the novelty hasn't worn off, great. If you find yourself not using it much, you can sell it on without much of a financial hit.

My turntable is the one item I will NEVER sell. It'll go to one of my daughters in my will. Then she'll have to start her own record collection, because there's no way she'll want to play my crap.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.
Speakers: Zu Omen Def, REL T9i subwoofer. Cables: Atlas Equator interconnects, Atlas Hyper 3.0 speaker cables

    T'other system:
Echo Dot, Amptastic Mini One,Arcam A75 integrated, Celestion 5's, BK XLS-200 DF

    A/V:
LG 55" OLED, Panasonic Blu Ray, Sony a/v amp, MA Radius speakers, REL Storm sub

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

If you're thinking about a DAC, take a look at a used Chord 2Qute. They've just released a new one (Qutest) so 2Qutes are appearing around the £500-600 mark. Before I bought a DAC I was able to compare a few and the Chord sounded better (to me) by a country mile.

I’d like to compare it with the M-Dac, Rega’s Dac and the Nad d1050.
