I used to fix the once upon a time, when the company I worked for leased them to big hotels.. the catering staff really abused the but they lasted a decent time. They all leak to a degree, but the radiation depletes greatly over a fairly small distance so if you are not overly close to it you will be fine
How close would you have to be to a leaky microwave to be affected by radiation? In the morningtime I sit on the worktop in front of it while it cooks my porridge. And my back has been pretty bad this last few weeks.

On the plus side it may be shaking up the neurons in my head - I did an IQ test recently and my IQ has shot up to a heady 79! Now I'm learning something new every day, instead of just re-learning stuff. Tied my own laces this morning! My short term memory has improved too. Also I tied my own shoelaces this morning.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

I bought a combination Sharp microwave for my Mum many years ago, it also lasted a similar time, something like your 18 years. It was exceedingly heavy.
