Nice one, Granty! Did you get some inspiration from the induction hob we put in our new kitchen?

Glad you're enjoying yours. Quite simply, once you've gone the induction route, there's no going back to inferior gas hobs!

Btw, did you have to replace any of your pots and pans? We had to chuck a whole load out, simply because they weren't magnetic. Oh, and if you fancy adding a small portable induction hob, at some point, Ikea are doing them for £35!

    See here: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/k...nduction-hobs/

    And apparently they're very good

We had some Induction cookers installed in our new Innovation centre at work but someone forgot to buy the right pans. Nearly 1 year later the cookers have still not been used.

Absolutely, but that's the way things go here. They spent £120,000 on an innovation centre and cant afford the pots and pans.

We are due a kitchen refit this year and induction hobs are on our radar. They look very nifty indeed.

I cant help think id miss gas for things like cooking with the ok though, but maybe I'm wrong. I could see us ending up with a combination of both possibly.

The only minute advantage of gas, Ben, is that it's fractionally more controllable, simply because you can more successfully 'fine-tune' the level of heat applied and where. Other than that, the advantages of induction vastly outweigh those of gas.

    Main advantages of Induction:

    1) Heats up things significantly quicker, even when a gas hob is turned up full, therefore saves on energy, so your bills will be cheaper.

    2) Much cleaner and safer. Unlike with gas, no fumes are polluting the atmosphere when cooking is taking place. No risk of accidental fire. And any spillages won't be 'baked onto' the hob surface, simply because the only part of an induction hob that's ever heated is the area directly underneath the pan.

    3) Because it brings water, inside a pan, to boiling point so quickly, the need for a kettle is questionable!

The one thing I seriously dislike is not being able to control panel heat well by tilting the pan.

    Just sayin'.
