I'm Paul.
I did try swimming but I just really dislike it, which is odd as I can actually swim quite well. My run is generally 5K with the 3rd K all uphill which is a bit of a killer and a real test of willpower and When doing it Inwonder whatbthe hell am I doing but I get it done. So I don’t think the swimming thing is down to no willpower, I must just really dislike it.

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?
“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
***SMILE, BE HAPPY***
Not had a beer for a few weeks myself. Finally managed to pack the fags in too, after a major battle with the habit.
Can't say I feel hugely improved though, but I don't have a cough over the morning fag anymore .
I've worked out it'll save me probably a couple of grand a year.
Oh, and my blood pressure has dropped to normal.
I weighed 11 pounds when I was born, poor mummy, and I've always struggled with my weight. 30 years ago I was diagnosed with an endocrine disease which makes loosing weight very hard. I've tried more diets than you can shake a stick at with very little success. Fortunately I don't have a large appetite and only eat twice a day, love veg and keep away from processed food.....I do like a curry though.
Whatever diet you try the simple truth is if you don't burn the calories you put in your mouth your body will store it up in the form of fat.
Not a diet thing but something that made a huge difference for me was stopping smoking. I really enjoyed cigars but gave them up in January on my birthday and now use a vape, I've stopped coughing and wheezing and feel generally better plus I'm a bit better off.......I might get that Cadenza Black a little bit sooner than I thought.

Yes I feel any diet book can be reduced down the the basics of moving more and eating less.
I think anyone needs to go in seriously with a full doctors check up then a personal trainer at the gym who will bring you in gently but make sure you are not playing at it.
This coupled with cutting out several isles in the supermarket will do the trick over time. I mean completely out not a friday treat like some diet books witter on about. I think there is too much crap talked about being allowed a bit of everything while dieting
The problem for me is the willpower to get on with that. I have cut down on the food uin the past and it does start working. However I cant keep it up because it seriously means no biscuit isle, no cheese and so on.
Lets face it..... a fig roll and a nice bit of cheese is bloody nice. I used to run when I was yoinger and feel like a gazelle when it all felt right. I just cant get motivated now and cycling down to the shops just isnt enough exercise to remove belly weight in particular
When trying to get in shape, a mirror is a much better indicator of progress than weighing scales. And Body Mass Index (BMI) can be unreliable.
About 20 tears ago I went to college to do a sports therapy course. The tutor, a keen bodybuilder, was about 5'8", and about 15 stones of lean muscle, and BMI showed him to be obese, while one of the students, who was over 6 feet, and was a terrible shape, sort of like a hot dog sausage with four toothpicks for limbs, was in the 'normal' range.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

An alternative measure (and some regard it as more accurate) is that one's waist measurement should be no more than half one's height.
Barry
I don't see how that can work. I'm mesomorphic, but the waist measurement ratio would be completely different for an ectomorph of the same height.
