I worked for years in cold and frozen storage warehouses. Used to see the office staff go past and think 'Jammy bastards'. You can't beat dossing around sat at a desk, whatever job you're supposed to be doing.

I used to hate that. Fortunately, I'd only have to do an hour or so before going round whatever outside sites were operating. Much more to my liking.

I never said it was a real job.

First firm I worked for was back when it was still called 'Personnel' and it was just one lady who came in part-time.

Nowadays there are dozens of people in 'HR' departments. No idea what they all do but don't bother to call them after 1500 hrs as they will all have gone home by then.

My first 'proper' job was in what was called 'Establishments', an even older name for what became 'Personnel', then 'Human Resources'. The latter term always reminds me of the Dilbert cartoon where the boss is saying 'Our people are our most important resource. After the photocopiers, that is; they're really important'.

One place I worked the HR manager was off for 6 months with 'stress'.

A friend of mine's wife used to work for a big insurance company, with a job title that didn't make any sense. One time, when we were arranging to go on a motorcycle rally, she said she had no holiday days left, but she could throw a sicky for a couple of days, as she hadn't done this for a few months

A couple of weeks after my 60th birthday, I received an NHS "shit kit", which checks for bowel cancer. Apparently everyone over 60 will gat one of these.
8 Weeks on, I've still not got round to it.

And what about the poor buggers at the other end, who have to deal with it? I can just see them going on "The Chase": "And what do you do for a living?" "I er, work in Human Resources".

I belong to a forum where the senior memebr used to joke about posting his 's***' to Nottingham.
I am now in the same boat as you , where the envelope with all the essential stuff you need to send some of yours off, has been unused !!

Oh well , must get to it one day!!
Having been farming for 45 yrs , what I wouldn't give for a sit down job (and not one bouncing up and down on a bloody tractor seat !!!) because my feet are about fecked lol
