gave a male doctor a piece of my mind once when he got cheeky with me. He was nice as ninepence after that...mainly because i was right and he was wrong i think. i wasnt rude just took him down a peg with logic.

he gave me a row for seeing him as an emergency as it wasnt as it transpired. i told the dick, how was i supposed to know i wasnt having a heart attack without consulting him? wait a few hrs till I died?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Hear, hear! Don't take any pish from *anyone* - no matter WHO they are, is my motto. As others have said, a lot of doctors are snooty bastards, who are too full of their own self-importance [mainly the men, I find]. which is so typical of academic types, devoid of any people skills!

So the best plan is to let them politely know from the off, that they're not dealing with a numpty!

It's one thing having the intelligence to pass the relevant medical exams, to qualify as a doctor, and quite another to have a nice 'bedside manner'...

And IMO, the best doctors are always those who excel at the latter and can put their patients minds at ease. The same also applies with teachers, which is one of the reasons why my wife succeeds so much (as she's really good with kids, always friendly, smiley/even-tempered, and also knows the subjects she teaches inside out).

I've not been to the doctor for over 10 years (since I was diagnosed with a spinal tumour and went through the process of successfully dealing with that and the following checkups), and it would've been about 15 years before that since I was last there. I'm very rarely ill [take no regular tablets for anything, no aches or pains], but I guess I should go for a check up again ('MOT]) just in case. I'd certainly have no qualms about that

However, never feel intimidated by a doctor, as that's not what they're there for. They're there to help YOU, not massage their egos!
