“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Yeah, they certainly did give a shit, on that particular occasion. The smell was bloody awful. Pity the more sod who had to clear it up.

I'd rather just hang on rather than use a public toilet.

I certainly wouldn't walk into one whilst eating.

Regrettably the toilet habits of some of the non-indigenous personnel we seem to have acquired leave a lot to be desired. I don't think they are keen on using a traditional western toilet. At least not in the traditional western manner.

I've seen them taking a dump in the street here. In broad daylight, regardless of who may be about. Multiculturalism is wonderful!

Perhaps someone on here can explain this to me.

Whenever there is news coverage about Islamic State, they refer to it as 'So-called Islamic State'.

I don't understand the difference, but maybe I'm just a bit thick.

You should have seen the look my mate got whilst we were drinking in a bar in the States, and he says "I am going outside to smoke a fag".

Barm cake is North Western - my family is Mancunian, and consequently we always refer to them as barm cakes.
Barm is the leavening agent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barm
