    I use "ask" but that is because I grew up in London in the 60s. If I had been born in other parts of the English speaking world or in earlier times, I would be more likely to use one of the other forms.

    oddly most folk complained about the toffee nosed bbc english so they reluctantly changed it. now its gone too far the other way

    What does irritate me is how certain words have been accepted into common usage despite being incorrect. In the USA, it is almost impossible to escape ads for products to help reduce belly "pooch". This seems to me to be some mutation of "paunch" and "pouch"!
