I think with speakers if they are rear ported thats when the wall distance becomes a issue , from memory I dont think th 44s are

Not too close. They're not good directly on the floor either. Short stands suit these, maybe 12 inches off the deck.
Not my favourite Celestions, but OK if the price is right.
If I remember right about 200 to 300mm from the wall to the back of the cabinet.

350mm for me, room is 25m2.
Alternatively look for a pair of B&O Beovox 5700's, they have the HF2000 tweeter (Ditton 44/66), MD/F500 mid (Ditton 66) and can be picked up very cheap.
More sophisticated speaker than the 44's, better imaging, deeper, if not as exciting / fast bass.
40mm deeper than the 44 cabinets but (in my room) performed best when less than 300mm from rear wall.
