Default Record Store Day 21st April 2018

This year's list as released yesterday:

    https://recordstoreday.co.uk/media/5...oduct-list.pdf

Not being a fan of coloured vinyl for its own sake, there isn't much to tempt me here although the typo suggesting that Mastodon have recorded a club anthem would've been worth a shot.

Expect these to all be on eBay by that same evening (with an extra 0 added to the price).

I really like record store day. I’m usually too busy to buy on the day but last year I picked up loads of great records.

If I get to it this year, instead of having to work, that'll be a first.

Yes, I think that was one.

I just see it as a bit of fun - nobody says you have to buy these records - I think some people are applying far too much political emphasis to RSD. If it helps promote vinyl then I am all for it!

It doesnt sit well with me. If somebody wants to release something I will come to it in my own good time if Im interested. It would have to be pretty amazing for me to buy a "limited edition" copy on or near a particular day. If I cant order or reserve something, I dont mess about with pot luck on top dollar items.

Its about the music and not overpriced novelty gimmicks of coloured vinyl and limited edition sleeves. Its an ebay scalpers paradise but I reckon that market is fading as people wise up. I know all about the limited edition tricks of the trade.

If its worth releasing produce it but dont give me all this overpriced hype that its on yellow vinyl with a foil sleeve or something

Are they are trying to get the cassette revival going as well?

Good luck if you see something you like but I dont really like record store day and dont bother with it.

I'd only buy "collectables" if they had an additional feature rather than simply being limited editions. Coloured vinyl in its own right doesn't do anything for me, picture discs are virtually unplayable and a sticker saying number X out of Y is rather meaningless.

I am fond of things like my original 3D sleeve copy of The Stranglers' "The Raven" or Massive Attack 12"s with tracks that aren't available elsewhere, but they were bought for what they are not what they might be worth.

I have a few records which are picture discs or coloured vinyl, and none of them sound right, background noise and somehow less 'dynamic'.

I'm all for supporting local record shops, but only when I'm after a particular record. Chances are that if I did go on 'Record Store Day' I'd just end up with impulse buys, which can ill-afford and would later regret.

Also, I would be giving up a day's work, making me £100 or so poorer before I even make a purchase.
