    Default tannoy eatons

so many years ago in west norwood we had tannoy speakers instead of church bells as they were based there in south london i think

never had a pair of tannoy in my system but by chance i have some eatons . now also had some frugalhorns for past few weeks which quite frankly have been entrancing . i fact they rather spoilt the arrival of some speakers i had ordered because they were so different [harbs shl5plus]

so these are the NEW legacy range from tannoy and retail at 4.5k i think .

they go deeeeeeeep man for such a little speaker , enough to be worried about the neighbour when playing organ music . so will be listening over next few days and considering i normally walk out of most tannoy rooms as they are too forward for me these classic series are most interesting

They look in very nice condition.

Be interesting to hear how you get on with them.

I have a pair of Devon's, but usually use Rogers LS3/6 (with Export Monitor bass units), in preference.

Not surprising I guess. They look like the new 'Legacy' Eatons to me. The design is not related to the seventies HPD Eatons.

I was fooled! the grille cloth and badges look similar to my 70's Devons. I should have noticed the Bi Wire facility!

If the grille was off in the photo, no doubt you'd see a 'tulip waveguide' tweeter staring at you from the centre of the driver.

Ha I was confused for a second as well as they looked a bit like my Eatons and I thought someone had done some cosmetic improvement. Then saw the biwire links.

It would be interesting to hear the old and new side by side. Pity you are not around the corner Phil so we could try.

it is a shame . the earth terminal apparently can be used to bond the drive units back to ground to lessen the impact of rf interference . if shielded cables are used , this terminal can be used to connect to the shield apparently

so playing a number of other albums like pyramaxx which is sort of rocky electronica using the naim supernait 2 there is a real energy from these, crisp but not too crisp meaning at lower levels you can hear more. so annoying in the evenings to have to turn it down when you are sharing the room and not be able to hear the detail

the drums on mike oldfield sound very realistic , vocals realistic , not quite as good as the frugalhorn with the big msb amp but then the supernait cost about 13k less so that might explain that !!

I suppose earthing the speaker chassis might be a good thing for user safety in the unlikely event of a dangerous fault in the amplifier.

However, earthing the speaker chassis could be an added way that a short circuit is presented to the amplifier, possibly causing damage, if the voice coil shorts to chassis.

played the eatons yesterday with the big thrax integrated valve amp and one hell of a sound . extremely compelling . they are a remarkable little speaker . not quite so beautiful to look at perhaps as the harbs

today using with a valve pre and class a power to compare
