With an spdif converter in the setup you'd probably be better off with one of these, just goes in front of the DAC spdif...

...FYI I've no experience of this product

The USB to SPDIF converter itself should provide the isolation, no need to add another box (my Halide Bridge converter uses an output transformer). in fact, chances are that your SPDIF input uses a transformer anyway...

Isolators are only really 'needed' if the USB front end, or SPDIF input, is not galvanically isolated.

    Here you go: https://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-0-5m-...dp/B007PKPV7A/

What you are looking for is a properly specified cable, which this cable is. I guarantee there'll be 'audiophile' cables out there that don't meet the proper specification for USB 2.0.

Thanks I'll bear that in mind but at the moment I want to seer if a cable upgrade will lead to an improvement, plus I'm looking at usb to spdif converters which I'm hoping will achieve the same thing.

I'll think about this, I was wondering that, my current cable is probably at least 10 years old and probably came with a printer or something so may not be 2.0 compliant which might explain why music sounds like mp3 quality at the moment. I'm worried the Chinese diy cable above may not be 2.0.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Fair point...I have a pi with a hifiberry digi+ pro board, which has isolation on the SPDIF output, a noticeable improvement in SQ...
