“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

That would be my Technics SL-110. Production ceased in 1975, so it’s at least 43 years old.

Mordaunt Short MS 400 speakers from 1970 (48 yrs) - only thing changed is 4 Elcap electrolytic caps. Still singing sweetly.
A mainly digital setup with a musical amplifier and endearing 1970's speakers. A CD player that hardly ever gets used and a turntable that is good enough to remind my how enjoyable my old vinyl is. Some cables and things.

My oldest items are the drivers in my open baffle speakers. All are about 65yrs old

Bass: 15" VOTT (Voice Of The Theatre) Altec 416-8A 8 ohm alnico

    Midrange: 8" Saba Greencone alnico

    Tweeter: 4" Grundig alnico

Its a testament to the quality of vintage gear that they are still in perfect condition.

Oh, and the 45 triodes in my amps are about 70 years old.

What a coincidence seeing this thread. I was just yesterday in a different thread mulling over the idea of starting such a thread.

In my case it would be the newly acquired Tannoy Eatons which was from the 70s. Have not opened them up to look at the exact date codes.

And if you include circuit ideas then my newly built Radford Sta25 dates from the 50s.

The power network feeding my house.
I have no idea how old it is, but it is pretty bad!

It is probably the NOS Telefunken valves in my amplification. If my memory serves me correctly they are of late 50s early 60s origin.

I hope you've invested in a nice mains regeneration unit and/or the installation of a dedicated radial circuit for your hi-fi system, to help counteract the effect of your 'mauvais mains supply'!
